Project: Villawood Immigration Centre Redevelopment Project

In June 2010 Appian Group was appointed to the role of Project Manager and Contract Administrator[1]
The project includes the construction of approximately 20,000m2 of buildings in accordance with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's facilities standards (to replace the ageing infrastructure) and the remediation of the 16.8 hectare site to remove asbestos containing material. The construction must be managed and staged to ensure the capacity of the centre is not reduced and that the quality of life of persons in detention is not negatively impacted.
This project aims to set new benchmarks with respect to the design of immigration centres with a particular focus on the human dignity and mental health of persons in detention.
Appian Group was / is currently responsible for:
- All user group consultation and the drafting of the Functional Brief,
- The negotiations, contract development and awarding of the contract to the Managing Contractor,
- The management of the Managing Contractor during the planning and remediation phase to develop the Master Plan and Schematic Design, establishment of a Target Cost and Program and the preparation of contract documents for Stage 2 (the delivery phase),
- Management of the user group consultation and design (in conjunction with the Managing Contractor) for the design stages,
- Preparation of all project and contract management plans to guide the development of the project through to its conclusion in 2015, and
- All external stakeholder and communications management.
