Director - Steve Cary

BEng, MBA - Steve has a vast track record in Australia and the UK on major building and infrastructure projects and the development of complementary operational reforms.  Steve has extensive experience in the project direction and project management of health, pharmaceutical, infrastructure and urban renewal projects, with values ranging from $500m to $2b.  Steve was the Project Director responsible for the first PPP project within Western Australia (the CBD Courts Project) and managed the project through the critical business case, project definition and procurement stages before handing over the role to a fellow Appian Group director.  Steve was also the Project Director leading a team of approximately 15 Appian Group staff on the $1.76b Fiona Stanley Hospital project and in this role developed the project's Business Case, Project Definition Plan, Project Brief and Procurement Strategy.  Steve is currently the director of Appian Group's Sydney office where he is leading the Villawood Immigration and Detention Facility Project and undertaking strategic reviews of major projects on behalf of Appian Group clients.

Director - Richard Mickle

BEng, FIEAust, FAICD - Richard was employed by the John Holland Group for 24 years, the last 16 of which were in senior management roles (including seven years as General Manager and Director of the Western Region of John Holland Pty Ltd). Consequently Richard has been involved with the delivery of numerous major projects across all disciplines - including commercial, social, sport, retail, defence, industrial, transportation (rail, road and airports), ports, resources and transportation infrastructure. Richard thus brings a unique understanding of the delivery of complex projects and associated strategies, which enables him to optimise project outcomes. This background has provided Richard with excellent knowledge of all phases of the project delivery process including project definition, feasibility studies, business case development, planning, stakeholder liaison, design management, procurement strategies, contract negotiations, risk management and construction control activities. Additionally, in the course of delivery of these projects Richard has been involved with all forms of project delivery.

Richard has been responsible for the establishment of a new master plan and a 50 year lease for 67ha of land for the redevelopment of the Perth freight terminal precinct. This has included extensive negotiations and agreements with public authorities, development of a business case for the lease and subsequent infrastructure requirements.

Director - Nadia van Dommelen

BEng - Nadia is a professionally qualified civil and structural engineer with 14 years of industry experience in project and construction management of commercial construction projects and structural design. In addition to her role as Project Director of the CBD Courts Project ($400m NPV), Nadia is currently involved in the preparation of a business case for the proposed Supreme Court Redevelopment project to accommodate the long term accommodation needs of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. She is also providing strategic advice for a cabinet submission for a major land development project for Government, and recently project managed a complex site selection process to identify a suitable parcel of land for a proposed metropolitan prison precinct to cater for the custodial needs of the Perth metropolitan area over the next 100 years. Nadia's experience in planning and delivering major projects has provided her with broad technical and commercial skills, and knowledge of all required processes for the successful initiation and delivery of major construction and development projects.

Associate Director - Andrew Lewis

Andrew has over 16 years experience working in the construction industry, including a combined 11 years experience in the security and risk management industry, occupying senior project and general management roles. This experience has largely been gained in the field of security services working in various market sectors including government, defence, financial institutions, mining and commercial facilities. Andrew has acquired an excellent knowledge of other construction disciplines through coordination of this work, and his industry experience has provided him with the strong technical and commercial skills required to manage the design and construction delivery processes for large construction projects. Andrew provided critical design and construction expertise during the delivery phase of the CBD Courts Project ($400m NPV), particularly in the specialist fields of custody and security design and operations. He currently has senior management responsibility on the $1.76b Fiona Stanley Hospital including all activities associated with site creation of this 32ha site including federal and state authority approvals, interdepartmental negotiations and negotiations with third parties.

Associate Director - Guy Mander

BAppSc., BArch., PCertArb. AIAMA - Guy has over 20 years of experience in project management, contract management and design of projects including inner city multi-storey development and major multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. His extensive training and experience in multi-disciplinary design team management, from conceptual planning through to construction documents and his commercial experience in contract administration provides Guy with the necessary foundation to provide clients with high quality client-side project management service.

As an integral member of the senior management team for the WA Government's recently completed $1.66 billion New MetroRail project, Guy was responsible for the stations and buildings elements of the project involving multiple station buildings on multiple sites over the length of the project. The role provided him with an excellent knowledge of the full range of stages and disciplines associated with large goverment infrastructure projects including project initiation and master planning, public and stakeholder consultation, project definition, project team and office establishment, procurement, design and contract management, and commissioning and handover to the project owner.

Associate Director - Robert Lewis

BEng - Robert is a highly commercially literate property and project management professional who is a qualified mechanical engineer that has worked as a development manager, project manager and mechanical designer on major projects throughout Australia.  This combination of skills means that Robert is perfectly skilled to integrate all technical and commercial issues on a project and therefore provide commercial, technical and contractual advice that will minimise the client’s risk and maximise the functional and operational outcomes of the engineering services.

Robert is currently project managing the engineering services on behalf of the State for the Fiona Stanley Hospital and State Rehabilitation Service projects.
